Inter Library Loans

Receiving electronic items

You will be sent a PDF file in most cases. We recommend you save this in a secure location as the same item cannot be supplied again if you lose it.

If the item is requested from the British Library, you will be sent a direct link instead. Please note that the ILL team may not have access to the item once it has been opened.

Collecting print loans

The ILL Team will notify you when your print loan is ready for collection.

This will be held in your chosen campus Library for 7 days. Please collect your item as soon as possible.

If you do not collect the item, you may not be able to request any further inter library loans for a period of time. If you have any difficulty picking up the item within 7 days, please contact ills@uws.ac.uk to discuss the issues.

Returning print books

Please return an inter library loan items you have borrowed to UWS Library before the advised due date.

If you are posting items back, please use a 'Signed For' service, which enables tracking of the item, and allow an appropriate length of time for the item to reach us before the due date.

If inter library loan items are not returned on time you may have to pay a renewal charge.

The library that owns the items can ask for it back at any time. If you receive a message saying your inter-library loans has been recalled, please return the item as soon as possible.

Will I be able to renew an Inter Library Loan book?

The library that owns the item can decide whether or not to allow it to be renewed. Requests are dealt with on a case by case basis, and the outcome may not always be the same.

If you would like us to ask whether the item can be renewed, you must let us know at least 5 days before the return due date by e-mailing ills@uws.ac.uk.

You will need to pay the full cost of the renewal. The amount to be charged is decided by the library owning the item. If you would like to find out more about renewing inter library loan items contact ills@uws.ac.uk
