Library Services for Students

Introduction

We provide library services and support to all of our students to help you succeed in your studies. Online guides, noted below, are available to support you to find, choose and use information and resources, and to make effective use of available library services. 

Library Resources

Students studying at Ayr, Dumfries (UWS), Lanarkshire, London and Paisley have access to all our online resources. Access varies for students studying at other locations due to licensing conditions. Visit Services for Partners and Associates for more details.

Developing Your Skills

Use our online guides or book an appointment for additional support with:

  • developing your skills in choosing and using resources
  • literature searching and improving your search strategy
  • using advanced tools in online databases
  • planning research for your dissertation
  • using generative AI
  • integrating information into your work
  • answering your complex referencing questions.
  • managing your references

Services and Support Available at Campus Libraries

Visit any campus library info point, e-mail library@uws.ac.uk or log a call on the self-service portal for help with:

  • finding and logging in to online resources, including e-books, journals and databases
  • an introduction to functions of online resources, including search options and filters
  • finding books, journals and other physical resources in the library
  • using Microsoft Office packages to organise and present your work (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • using equipment and technology in the library, including MFDs (printers), PCs, Student App and Wi-Fi
  • checking references using Cite Them Right
  • borrowing, renewing and returning library books, including using self-service machines
  • arranging access to study in the library at another university through the SCONUL Access scheme
  • using lapsafes to borrow and return laptops
  • information about campus library facilities, events and activities
