Services for Accessibility and Well-Being
Campus Libraries - Physical Accessibility
A lift is available in campus libraries at Ayr, London and Paisley.
Libraries at Dumfries and Lanarkshire are accessible from the building front entrance with no barriers.
Accessible facilities with height adjustable desks are available at Ayr, Dumfries, Lanarkshire and Paisley campus libraries.
Paisley quiet and silent study areas do not have accessible doors - contact library@uws.ac.uk or ask at the info point for advice on alternative accessible spaces on campus.
Accessible toilet facilities are available within the library at Ayr (Level 3), Lanarkshire, and Paisley (Levels 1, 2 and 3), and are located near to the library space at Dumfries and London.
Resource Accessibility
Self-Service kiosks have the facility to self-select larger font-size on screen and change the language option (French, Spanish and Chinese script in addition to English are the pre-set options but other language options can be provided on request).
Dyslexia reading strips can be requested from any campus library info point.
Students who are registered with UWS Disability services and need resources in an alternative format can register for the RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) service.
Contact library@uws.ac.uk for further information or speak to a member of staff at any library info point.
If an item is not available through RNIB we will request this for you from the publisher. (This may take some time.)
Registered distance learners have home delivery available as an option for requested books (students must cover the cost of return postage).
Well-Being Resources and Services
UWS Library service provides resources and activities to support you including;
- Wee Read libraries at all campuses, with free fiction and general interest books for you to read, keep or swap
- Well-being tables at Paisley Campus Library with jigsaws, mindful colouring and chess sets
- Fiction and other general interest books available for you to borrow
- Events and activities, including workshops, creative activities and exhibitions
Services available to UWS Students and staff only:
- Free film streaming service from the British Film Institute (BFI Player)
- Free online access to magazines and newspapers in a wide range of languages (PressReader)
