Generative AI: Student Guidance
Generative AI and academic integrity
All UWS students are expected to uphold the values of academic integrity as outlined in the UWS Academic Integrity Guidelines.
Before you consider using Gen AI tools for any piece of assessed work, you should ask yourself the following questions:
- Have you checked your module handbooks and assignment details to find out if the use of Gen AI is permitted?
- Did you follow the guidance and restriction on the use of Gen AI for a particular assessment where it has been permitted?
- Can you say honestly that you are the author of the piece of work?
- Did you consult multiple sources in the preparation and creation of the piece of work?
- Have you given appropriate credit to the tools and sources that you used in the creation of the piece of work? Please read the section in this guide on referencing AI.
We strongly recommend that you check and follow up on any information that you take from a Gen AI tool. Search for corroboration of facts, and for other authoritative sources which you can reference. For more information on searching for good quality academic resources, please refer to our How to Search Guide and to our Subject Guides.
