Welcome to the Social Sciences Subject Guide

This is your guide to how the library can support you when studying and researching Social Sciences at UWS.

As a student or researcher at UWS you have access to a huge range of resources that will be essential to your studies - books, journals, databases and more. Knowing how to get the most out of these can seem tricky at first - the good news is that UWS Library is here to support you on each step of the journey.

Use the tabs at the top of the page to navigate your way around this subject guide. Or, use the 'Quick Links' box to quickly access other related useful guides and information.

If you require further advice, please contact me, your Academic Librarian by clicking the email button on the right.

Help & Support

The Library is here to support you in your studies. If you are experiencing difficulties accessing any resources or would like to discuss your searches, referencing or related matters, please contact library staff. We are available throughout the academic year.

or log a call on the Self Service Portal.

Where to start

Explore our collections with OneSearch (or from the Library tile for the Library Search on the UWS Student app).

UWS campus libraries stock a wide range of textbooks, eBooks, print journals and other materials to support your studies.  Search for these, and many of our electronic journal articles on OneSearch - learn how in our OneSearch guide.

Expected to dig deeper and run complex focused searches for journal articles?

Access our multi-disciplinary and subject-specific bibliographic databases. See our Database A-Z list for suggestions.  You will also see recommendations using the Subject groupings in our guides.

Learn the tips and tricks - ask the experts, otherwise known as library staff.
