How to access a journal article, book or conference paper not held by UWS Library

How can I check if the item I need is available elsewhere?

You can enter the book, journal article or conference details into the 'Open Access Button' or 'Google Scholar' search engines to see if the item is freely available online.

How do I make a request?

  1. Please ensure you are fully enrolled with the library and do not have overdue loans or outstanding fines.
  2. Please download a request form for each item:  Download Request Form - web version (Word)
  3. Complete the relevant details.
  4. Submit the request(s) by email to ills@uws.ac.uk - from your UWS email address - or in person to any campus library InfoPoint.

Requesting a book?

Please provide the following details:

  • Author(s) or editor(s).
  • Title.
  • Date of publication.
  • Edition, if 2nd or later.
  • Publisher. 
  • If known, please also provide the ISBN (a book's unique identifier).

 

Requesting a specific chapter rather than the whole book? Please add the:

  • Author(s) of the chapter.
  • Title and page numbers of the chapter. 

Requesting an article?

Please provide the following information:

  • Author(s) of the article.
  • Title of the article.
  • Title of the journal.
  • Year of publication.
  • Volume, (issue) and page numbers.

Requesting a conference paper or set of papers?

Please provide all relevant information to help us identify and source the item.

How much does it cost?

UWS Library bears the costs for each request subject to the following limits:

  • Staff and Research students: UWS Library will satisfy all interlibrary loans requests within the constraints of the current year’s budget.
  • Postgraduate and Honours students: up to 10 interlibrary loan requests per academic year will be supported.
  • Undergraduate students (levels 7-9): up to 5 interlibrary loan requests per academic year will be supported to enable completion of independent study projects.
