Inter Library Loans: FAQs

How to access a journal article, book or conference paper not held by UWS Library

Why must I agree to the Copyright Declaration?

Under copyright law you would normally have to pay the copyright owner a fee for their work. However, you will be exempted from this by Library Privilege if you require a copy for non-commercial research or private study. In order to use Library Privilege you must agree to the copyright declaration when placing your request.

Am I guaranteed to receive requested items?

All requests are subject to:

  1. The agreement of, and any conditions set by, the lending library.
  2. Copyright legislation - see our Copyright at UWS guide for details.

Can I use the materials for teaching?

Items are supplied for personal use only. If you need an item to share or use as part of your teaching, please use our scanning service.

Can I request more items?

UWS Library bears the costs for the number of requests listed on Making a request.

Additional requests are accepted subject to payment of the standard charge.  Applicable costs will be advised as relevant.

How do I cancel my request?

It may be possible to cancel the request before the lending library has issued the item to us. To check, please contact the team - ills@uws.ac.uk

How long will I have to wait?

The ILL team aim to supply online requests within 5 working days.

The supply of print items may take longer but the team will keep you updated throughout.

What happens if I don't collect my ILL book?

Your library privileges may be suspended for a period of time.

What happens if an ILL book is lost or damaged?

A standard replacement charge may be applied.
