IOPscience is an online platform for journal content published by IOP (Institute of Physics) Publishing.
Approximately 100 journal titles are included in addition to 130 ebooks.
Not all content may be included in our UWS subscription. Please refer to the "Getting the Full Text" section of this Guide.
To begin your search click on the magnifying glass at the top of the homepage (to the left of the Journals drop down menu).
There are 2 search options:
Search all IOPscience content (to search for journal articles and book chapters using keywords/phrases or author's names). Searches can be refined by using one, or more, of the following options:
Remember to "Apply filters" once you have selected the option(s) that you want to use.
Search results are ranked by Relevance but this can be changed to date if you prefer. Click on "Update" if you change the order in which the search results are displayed.
Article Lookup (to quickly locate a specific journal article by completing the required fields).
UWS Library does not subscribe to all of the journals and eBooks available from IOPscience.
If a journal article is unavailable via our subscription, it might be possible to source a free copy on the internet that is provided under an open access arrangement. This can be checked using Google Scholar. Type in one author's surname and add the title of the article in quotation marks (to look for the words in the same order). If the article is freely available, you will see a PDF or HTML notation to the right of the citation.
You may also be able to get the article by requesting an Inter-Library Loan.
IOPscience has produced a set of concise (and easy to follow) videos designed to help you make the most effective use of this resource. Topics covered include:
You may wish to set up a personal account within IOPscience. Please note that while this allows you to access additional features of the database it does not give you access to additional full-text content to which UWS Library does not subscribe!
