Our print resources

To help keep students and our team safe we introduced the following:

  • Book return boxes placed outside or at the entrance to the campus to minimise the number of people onsite (due dates have also been extended and fines incurred since 13/03/2020 waived).

  • Any books returned to us will be quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours – to ensure they are safe to be re-shelved or for the next person to use (please note this may extend the time you have to wait for a reserved book).

Important information for all students & staff

As with government and university guidance:

  • Do not enter any UWS campus or the Library if you have any COVID-19 symptoms.

  • Please download the Safe Zone App to your mobile device before entering the campus.

  • Under the enhanced Tier 4 guidelines, library study space is not currently accessible. Please see the university website for alternative study space availability.

  • Face coverings to be worn in the Library at all times unless you are exempt (more information can be found here). You can collect an exemption sunflower lanyard from the Hub at Paisley or from the Welcome desk at any other campus.

  • To help keep our spaces tidy and allow for cleaning staff to focus on essential areas there should be no food consumed in the Library.  You can still bring drinks in lidded containers.

  • If requested we may be required to share student and staff information to support the NHS Test & Protect (more information can be found here).

Protecting students and staff

You will notice several new additions throughout the Library space including:

  • Transparent screens at each Library Info Point.

  • Transparent screens between our Self-service kiosks to help with social distancing.

  • Self-clean stations with PPE and hand gel dispensers located throughout the Library space.

  • Signage to help you get used to the new way of moving around and using the space, for example one person to use the lift, study spaces in use and any areas temporarily out of use.

  • Our staff wearing protective equipment including face coverings, disposable gloves and aprons particularly when handing print resources.

Using the Library space

Under the enhanced Tier 4 guidelines, library study space is not currently accessible. Please see the university website for alternative study space availability.

Once we return to Tier 3 and study space is available again, we want to ensure it is a safe environment for students and staff to use. Here is how you can use the library space:

  • Pre-book your study space via My Day (watch the video below for assistance).

  • Please use your student email address to log in.

  • Study spaces have been spaced out to ensure social distancing is possible; some chairs and equipment have been taken away.

  • Group study options will be unavailable.

  • Wear a face covering at all times when in the Library.

  • Be mindful when moving around: at the self-service kiosks, using the stairs/lift, queueing for anything and approaching our staff or other students.

UWS (2020) UWS Study Space Self-Booking. Available at: https://youtu.be/UKV9mvLGT5U (Accessed: 30 Sept 2020).

Moving around the Library space

Please adhere to social distancing rules at all times in the Library; to help with this we have introduced these measures:

  • Floor stickers to mark out safe spaces to queue.

  • One-way systems when there is limited space for more than one person to move around.

  • Study spaces: seats and PC’s have been removed to help with social distancing.  Please do not rearrange any furniture or equipment.
