Introduction to UWS Library

Reserve

Here's a step by step guide to help you:

  • Sign-in to One Search the Library catalogue
  • Search for the item you want
  • Click Reserve and confirm the pick-up location
  • When the item(s) is available for collection you will receive a notification to your student email
  • Collect the item within a week 
  • If you no longer require the item, email library@uws.ac.uk

Collection is available during Library opening hours. Email us for details

Recall

The Library operates a recall system.  You may receive a recall notice if someone has reserved an item you have borrowed. The notice is sent to your University email address. 

This means you will be asked to return the item before the original date given. The recall notice will advise you of the new date, giving you 7 days to return it.

If your item is recalled and you still need it, you can reserve it once it has been returned. Alternatively, check OneSearch for an eBook.

Lost or Damaged Books

If you have lost or damaged a UWS Library book please contact Library staff on any Campus, email library@uws.ac.uk or telephone 0141 848 3888.

  • You will need to pay a replacement cost and admin fee.
  • Replacement copies are not accepted in place of payment.
  • No refund is given 28 days after payment.
  • Further borrowing will be blocked until replacement cost and admin fee is paid.
  • If the book is an Inter Library Loan copy please email ills@uws.ac.uk

Renew

All books you borrow are issued to your Library account.  Borrowing is free of charge as long as books are renewed or returned on of before the due date.

Standard loans are issued for 4 weeks, some books which are in high-demand are restricted to a one week loan so more students can get access.

> the easiest way to renew books is online; sign-in to My Library Card to do this.

> renew at the self-service kiosks on-campus (you will need your ID card).

Books can be renewed up to 5 times and as long as there are no other requests for it. If you are ever having difficulties renewing or returning books, please phone us and we will do our best to help.

Book return boxes placed outside or at the entrance to the Library.
